NOT BEFORE MARCH
NEW SOUTH WALES ELECTION GOVERNMENT SEEKING SUPPORTERS I OFFER MADE MISS STANLEY j By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.! SYDNEY, November 30. j In . the Legislative Assembly the Premier, Mr J. T. Lang, moved for Supply for four months, amounting to L 1,420,335, in accordance with tho promise given to the House last week. Mr T. IX. Bavin, Leader of the Opposition, objected to tho granting of • Supply, contending that there was nothing to prevent tho Government coming back to tho House at the end of March and asking for further Supply . Mr Bavin stated that he intended to divido the House on the motion for Supply, unless it could bo shown that the electoral rolls could not be ready within a month. The Colonial Secretary, Mr C. C. Lazzarini, intimated that it would be impossible to have the rolls ready before March. If an election were
held before then it would have to be under the proportional .representation system, with the 1924 roils. A sensation was caused when Miss Preston Stanley (Nat.) declared that the Minister for Health, Mr G. Cann, had offered to put through legislation in which she is interested if she would cross the floor to vote for an additional two months* Supply. Mr Cann admitted that he would put through the two Bills if Miss Stanley would support him. (Received November 30, 10.50 p.m.) In the Legislative Assembly a motion by Mr Bavin to reduce Supply to a sum sufficient for two instead of four months was defeated by 45 votes to 42, Messrs Loughlin, Goodin and Gillies voting with the Government. The House then passed four months’ Supply.
