A PRIMITIVE CHURCH
In Sail Diego County, Southern California, may bo seen wliat is surely the most primitive church in the world. It is known as the Sancta Isabel Mission. and is used by the Indians of the district. The church is built of brushwood. the .entrance being effected by climbing a rude ladder. Two bells are suspended from a cross beam, and a rude cross of nine has been erected upon a small levelled surface, which is utilised for open-air services should the congregation be too numerous to be accommodated within the narrow limits of the brush shelter. 4 BROTHERS—339 YEARS The total age of four brothers named IJuiidy, all widowers and living in the same street in the village of Abbot sbury, Dorset, is 339 years. Messrs R. C. and J. E. Mundy, who are 90 and 88 respectively, , served in the Crimean, war;' Samuel Mundy is 85 and Gabriel Mundy 76. They are all active.
BENGALEE FINDS “RAPHAEL” Acting on the advice of friends, a wealthy Bengalee, having picked up an old painting for a trifle in a Calcutta bazaar, sent it to Italian experts to be cleaned. A communication has been received from Italy to the effect that the experts pronounce the painting to be a picture of the Virgin and Child by Raphael.
BEES STOP HARVEST Harvesting operations were stopped by a swarm of bees in a field on the farm of Mudhall, Dyke, near Forres, -Vlcn and horses were severely stung. The animals reared and plunged, and great difficulty was experienced in releasing them from the shafts. Thfc condition of the lvrses*lbecame so! serious that a veterinary surgeon had to be summoned.
