A NATIONAL BRAND

FOR DAIRY PRODUCE “NEAV ZEALAND” ON FERN LEAF. The new regulations under the Dairy Industry Act, 1908, as to the manufacture and export of dairy produce, are published in the “Gazette” issued last night, at which time they come into operation. The purpose of the regulations was stated in a ministerial statement published in the "Times” a few days ago, but clauses 45 to 49, inclusive, introduce definitely -the establishing of a national brand for dairy produce for export, along the lines advocated at the recent conference of manufacturers and by other bodies. The regulations referring to this subject arc as follow : 45. Upon each end of every package containing creamery butter or fullcream factory cheese for export graded as finest or first grade shall be placed the national brand described in clause 49. 46. No person shall export or cause or permit to be exported in a package bearing the national brand any butter or cheese other than creamery butter or full-cream factory cheese graded as finest or first grade unless the national brand has first been cancelled by means of an indelible stamp impression approximately Gin long and 2in wide, and consisting of seven red bars each approximately Gin long and 3-16 in. wide. The national brand shall be used in conjunction with the marks and and brands provided for in sub-clause (1) or (3) of clause 41, sub-paragraphs (a) and (b) or sub-clause (1) of clause 42, and clause 13. Tho national brand shall he so placed on any package by means of an impressed die, or by some other approved means, and shall v be coloured in the same manner as the brands provided for in clause 44. . 49. .The national brand shall consist of a design of a fern leaf, bearing the words “New- Zealand” substantially in tho manner shown in the form numbered 11 in the schedule hereto.
