New South Wales in the first innings made 280 (Phillips made 39, Kippax 127, Scanes 38). Dowling for Queensland Mayes took •1 wickets for 53, G. Oxenbam 4 for 56. Queensland three wickets for 57 (L. Oxenliam 34). Kippax batted brilliantly, and gave a polished exhibition, scoring freely all round the wicket. He never appeared to be troubled by the bowling which had the remainder of the team in difficulties.
