BEYOND A JOKE

HARBOUR BOARD OFFICIALS HOAXED Shortly after 7 o’clock last evening officials of tho tolls office of the Harbour Board were advised that a yacht was in distress on Somes Island. The launch Arahine, with Captain J. Spence, deputy-harbourmaster, in charge, and several members of the police, immediately put off. Arriving at the island a complete search was made, but no sign of a disaster was found. Leper Island was next visited, and after thoroughly searching the island tho Araliino was brought back to town. Both the Harbour Board officials and the police now believe that they were hoaxed, but in the eyes of the police department this kind of hoax is regarded as a somewhat unpalatable joke.
