Paitridge; and a challenge to the crack ladies’ relay team of New Zealand by a team from Gisborne —these are some of the attractive items on the programme for Saturday’s big sports meeting, to be held at the Basin Reserve by the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club. Tho held in the cycle road race will comprise the best riders from Wellington, Canterbury and the Wairarapa. The Poverty Bay sprinter. Owen Paitridge, is considered by those who have seen him in action, to be well in line for New Zealand championship honours this season. Athletics for ladies is in the boom in Gisborne, and in Miss Eastwood, the East Coast lias undoubtedly a very fine runner. The relay team has been coached on’ lines suggested by Jackson Sholz, and with the other three runners very little lielow the class of Miss Eastwood. there is every prospect of Wellington’s champion team being extended to tho utmost, if not actually defeated.
