FIRES IN CITY
GOOD WORK BY FIRE BRIGAPE Fire and water damaged a washhouse at the rear of a wood and iron two-story dwellinghouse at 50, Nairn street, shortly after 11 o’clock on Tuesday night. The supposed cause of the fire is a light having been thrown down. The building, which is a wood and iron one, is owned by Mr George Fitchett, and is occupied by Mrs Emily Kelly. It is insured in the Alliance Office for £350, and there is a policy of £l9O in the Atlas Office on the contents. Damage by fire was done to a bathroom in a wood and iron shop and dwellinghouse at 50, Kent terrace, at about 12.30 o’clock yesterday afternoon. The promises are owned by Mrs Williemina Williamson, and occupied by Mr A. T Whale, butcher. There is a policy of £950 in the New Zealand Office on the building, and the contents are insured for £250 in the Ocean Office. It is believed that the fire was caused by a being overheated.
The City Fire Brigade did good work in both cases.
