SEA-SICK ANIMALS

It is reported that a number of ani. mals consigned from East Africa to England for the London Zoo died from sea-sickness on the voyage. Strangely enough, an animal, declared by a wellknown South African animal dealer to be the world’s worst sailor, survived tho trip, while six monkeys were fatally overcome with mal de mer. That animal was the porcupine. Porcupines, both African and Indian, havo stood tho rigours of sea trips, but not many. The animal dealer referred to above once included six of these strange animals in a consignment he dispatched to Hamburg. He accompanied them on the first part of the trin—from Durban around the coast to Cape Town—and no sooner had the ship cleared tho harbour than they became horriblv sea-sick. although the sea was almost as smooth as ** mill-pond. A little later the ship commenced to toll, and next morning not one of the six porcupines had the courage to fare its breakfast squarely. One by one they died.
