LANG TAX DEAD

NEW ZEALANDER'S OPINION "When 1 left Australia New South Wales was complaining of drought,” said Mr Will Appleton (just back from a month's trip to the Commonwealth) yesterday. "Everything was very dry and parched there, and the uncertainty of the Government did not tend to improve matters. Victoria, however, is looking very well, and opinions are that this State is in for a bumper season. “The Lang tax of a halfpenny a copy on newspapers will never be made/’ says Mr Appleton. “Feeling against it is too high. In and around Sydney there are a large number of sheets which are distributed free,, and these publications would be killed by the tax and a large number of men thrown out of work.”
