WELLINGTON REGIMENT
Ist BATTALION IN CAMP INSPECTED BY MAJOR-GENERAL YOUNG. Another beautiful suiid.v day contributed largely to the further progress of tho training' work of the Ist Battalion, "Wellington Regiment, now in camp at Tren.tham. Tuesday’s work was to a great extent similar to work carried out the day before—two companies firing the musketry course, while the balance continued the general training. During the day the G.O.C. (Major-General R. Young), accompanied by Colonel W. L. H. Burgess, Chief of the General Staff, paid a visit to the camp, and inspected all the companies of the battalion while at their training. The machine-gun platoon of the battalion accomplished a certain amount of shooting on the miniature range preparatory to continuing on the larger range to-morrow. At night a dance was provided in the racecourse buildings by the efforts of the local residents, and was much enjoyed by the men. On Friday a concert is to be held, and it is to be hoped that the bright humour and topical hits, which distinguished the last year’s effort, will be repeated. This (Thursday) afternoon the drill competitions will take place, when the spirit of competition will doubtless be running high. The correct laying-out of kits in the tents, which also enters into the competitions, has already been developed to such a pitch that there is very little to pick and choose between the several platoons and companies.
