I Captain W. P. CoJTfjjS, one of the former senior masters of the Union Steam Ship Company, died in Wellington on Tuesday. Captain Collins, who had not been in the best of health for some time, was born at Melbourne on November 11th, 1863. He joined the Union Company on March 20th, 1890, and his first command was the Kittawa, to which he was appointed master on June 27th, 1901. Prior to his joining the Union Company, Captain Collins wag in the service of the New Zealand Shipping Company. Among the Union Company’s steamers Captain Collins commanded are the Pateena, Rotomahana, Te Anau, Penguin, Wairuna, Mararoa, Monowai, old Aorangi, Moana, Moeraki, Rotoiti, Whangape, Manuka, and Maheno. His last command was thf» Maheno. Practically since 1912 until his retirement on August 11th, V.V24, Ca plain Collins was engaged in Urn intercolonial trade.
