The Marine Court which inquired into the stranding of the Rio Claro on the Queensland coast early in September lound the charge against the master, Rowland James Park, that lie carelessly navigated the vessel, to be sustained, but his failure to take the utmost precautions could not be regarded as a gross failure of duty. The court, therefore, did not deal with his certificate of competency, hut censured him. The cost of repairs to the vessel is £13,000. • * * » Flight-Lieutenant Bernard, who recently left Marseilles, has arrived at Magadascar. The University of Cambridge has conferred doctorates of law upon the Maharajah of Burdwan (India), Mr Mackenzie King (Canada), and Mr W. T. Cosgravc (Irish Free State).
