STREET WIDENING

LOWER HUTT SCHEME The Lower Hutt Borough Council is taking effective measures to _ guard against congestion in its district. At iost night’s meeting it adopted the recommendation of the estate committee, suggesting that the council take a loan poll for approximately £20,000 for the purposes of proposed street widening. The system it is calculated to adopt is that of purchasing the whole of any property that may be required for widening, the carrying out of necessary formation work, and the reselling of the balance of the land. It is hoped that in this way the loan will be practically self-supporting, the idea being that one property will be completely dealt with before operations are commenced on another.
