MINISTERIAL. A Press message from Dunedin states that the Acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. Downie Stewart, has been advised that the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. J. G. Coates, will sail from England about December 31st. Mr G. Milton Julius, of Christchurch, is at present in town. Mr and Mrs J. H. Tingey returned home by the R-.M.S. Tahiti yesterday. Mr 'Ultan P. McCabe returned to Wellington by the Tahiti from ’Frisco yesterday. The Rev. V. McGlone and the Rev. M. Ulilenberg were ordained by Archbishop O’Shea at the 10.30 Mass on Sunday forenoon at St. Joseph’s Church, Buckle street. The Rev. G. E. Moreton, of the staff of St. Paul’s Cathedral in the department of social work, is on a visit to Wellington. Mr Moreton preached at Wadestown on Sunday. A Press message from Auckland states that the Rev. Lionel Fletcher has accepted the permanent pastorate of Beresford street Congregational Church in response to a unanimous invitation •

To mark his retirement after fifteen years’ service, Mr W. A. Gordon, who was secretary of the Wellington branch of the Bristol Piano Company, was presented with a set of crystal ware from members of the staff of the local office.

Mr G. A. Hart, the new city engineer, and his family, are expected to arrive at Auckland by the Arawa today, and will be met by the city engineer of Auckland. They will come on to Wellington after a brief stay in Auckland.

Dr M. H. Watt, Deputy DirectorGeneral of Health, leaves for Melbourne by the Marama on Friday next to attend a medical conference to consider the question of the prevention of the transmission of infectious diseases in the countries bordering the Pacific. The conference will be attended by representatives of Great Britain, America, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and the Malay States. The funeral service of the late Canon J. C. Eccles, who died at Newmarket on Friday, aged 86, was conducted on Sunday with full honours by the Loyal Black Preceptory and Loyal Orange Institution, of which he had been a member for 70 years. The body is being taken by motor to Waipawa, where the deceased vicar lived for many years. The interment takes place to-day. The death took place in Manitoba last month of Mr Joseph Myers, following an attack of influenza. His death was unexpected, as it was not anticipated that the nature of his illness was so serious. The "deceased gentleman was the managing director of the Bingo Mine at Herb Lake, and some little time back had a great deal of anxiety over some legal proceedings which were forced upon him. but from which he emerged with honour. He was 56 years of age and unmarried. He left Auckland, New Zealand, about 15 years ago to go to Winnipeg, Canada. He was born in New Zealand and spent the greater part of his time in the Dominion until he went to the Northern Hemisphere. He is survived by four brothers, Mr Michael Myers, K. of Wellington, who is now in England appearing in a number of Privy Council appeals; . and Messrs John. Phillip and S. Myers, of the well-known , firm of importers and exporters, and four sisters. Mrs Scott, now visiting England; Misses Phoebe and Elenor Myers, touring in Europe; and 'Miss Isabelle Myers, who had made her home with Mr Joseph Myers. Mr John Myers visited his brother on his way back to New Zealand from England recently.
