LOWER HUTT CLUB SUCCESSFUL EVENING MEETING EXCELLENT TIMES REGISTERED The Lower Hutt Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club conducted a successful evening meeting on tlie local ground last evening, before an attendance of about 200 spectators. The track was in good order, and the times exceedingly good, although they give an. indication that the course is somewhat short. Good fields faced the starter’ and the racing throughout was exceptionally keen. Results are; — 220 yards handicap: First heat, W. Winnio (10yds) 1, J. Cunningham (12 yds) 2, P. Swan (17yds) 3. Time, 21 3-ssec. Second heat: J. T. Fleming (2 yds) 1, J. D. Mackay (13yds) 2, F. Sanders (17yds) 3. Time, 21 4-ssec. Final: Winnie 1, Cunningham 2, Fleming 8. Time, 21'2-ssec. Won by four yards, one foot between second and third. One and a half miles cycle handicap: J. Carswell (scr) 1, G. Prendergast (80 yds) 2, G. Bright 3. Time, 3min 52 sec. The scratch man early went up with the bunch. Carswell shot to the front in the last lap, and won by four lengths. Half a wheel separated second and third. 100 yards ladies' race: First heat: Miss N. Josephs (7yds) 1, Miss King (9yds) 2, Miss Porter (scr) 3. Time, 12 sec. Second heat: Miss Mantan (scr) 1, Miss J. Wilson (4yds) 2, Miss Pederson (11yds) 3. Time, 12sec. Final: Miss Josephs 1, Miss'Mantan 2, Miss Porter 3. Time, 12 1-osec. Won by a foot, inches separating the other placed competitors. SBO yards handicap: J. Wengnll (65 yds) 1, H. Gordon (50yds) 2, Barnes (soyds) 3. Time, lmin 55sec. The winner led throughout, and breasted the tape six yards ahead of Gordon. 100 yards junior handicap: Henderson (9yds) 1, R. Cunningham (4yds) 2, E. Rouse (9yds) 3. Time, 10 3-osec. Javelin throw: J. Cunningham (T2 ft) 152 ft Gin 1, Mackav (30ft) 14lft 7in 2, Hill (20ft) 126 ft sin 3. Men’s relay race (four 110 yards): 'Varsity (12yds) 1. Hutt Valley (20yds) 2, Wellington (scr) 3. Time, 45 2-ssec. 100 yards hoys’ handicap: H. Phillips 1. J. Phillips 2, Nesbit 3. Misses Porter, Collins, Mnntan, and Swinburne won the ladies’ relav race in 51 3-ssec. With the exception of Miss Collins the team will meet the Gisborne ladies on the Basin Reserve on Saturday.
