Salmon, S.M., presided aft tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, when the following cases were dealt with : Sydney Arthur Stringer appeared to answer three charges. He was convicted and discharged for a second offence of drunkenness. For assaulting Albert BcrfraTh Turner he was fined £2. and for using obscene language he was sentenced to on© month’s imprisonment. “Offences of this kind must he out down.” said the magistrate. “You have been convicted twice for r Mini* lar offence within the last 20 months.’ THEFT FROM Y.M.C.A. Leonard John Cooksou. a labourer, need 27. pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing £l3, the propertv of the Y.M.C.A. at Mangahao. Chief-Detective Ward said that Cooksou entered the sccretnrv’s room nnd committed the theft, later nutting part of the blame on a companion. The latter, however, denied all knowledge of the proceedings. Accused was sent to an industrial school when 13 years of age. but since then his record had been good. He was admitted to probation for a period of 12 months and ordered to make restitution of the amount taken. STOLEN OVERCOATS Harold Francis O'Grady was charged with stealing an overcoat valued aC £4. He was further charged with stealing nil overcoat valued at £l. Ho was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on each charge, tho sentences to be concurrent. Annie Lund, alias Chambers, n second offender for drunkenness, wa« fried £l. in default three days’ imprisonment. William Webh. a labourer aged 4", was fined £l, in default throe days’ imprisonment.
