Mr H. H. Sterling has returned north from Wellington. Mr W. Parry, M.P. for Auckland Central, who has been in Wellington for some days, has left for the north. Mr A. McLennan, head office inspector of the Bank of New Zealand has been appointed manager of the Dunedin branch of the bank. He will leave for Dunedin at an early date. A Press Association message from Christchurch reports that the death occurred of Alexander Ferguson, for 32 years Christchurch manager of the National Bank of New Zealand. Mr William Reeves died on Saturday at the age of 101 (says a Press Association message from Auckland.) He helped to form the gardens at the Crystal Palace, London, nearly 80 years ago.
Mr John Fuller, formerly a resident of Wellington and a member of the City Council, is at present visiting Wellington on business with the Fuller Theatres. He will return to Sydney on Friday next.
An inquest was held concerning the death of Mr Walter Hill, who slipped and fell on some concrete steps at ltiecarton racecourse during the progress of the meeting (says a Christchurch Press Association message.) A verdict of accidental death was returned. At the funeral, on Friday, there was a large attendance of representatives of local and other bodies, the cortege being over a mile in length.
