It was unique to see a small boy, under 15 years of age, in the dork at tho Supreme Court this morning, He had pleaded guilty to a charge of forging his employer’s name for 16s. A magistrate (Mr Barton), during the sitting of the Child Welfare Court, had decided that he had no power to deal with the boy on an indictable offence. The judge said that, although this boy was thoroughly bad, he • agreed that it was very unfortunate that the Act was so worded to deal with these cases. The whole thing was a muddle, and the Act wanted a thorough overhaul. The boy was sentenced to three years’ reformative detention. His Honour intimating that he would be placed immediately in the Borstal institution.
