ALLEGED GAME OF CHANCE “JUDGED ILLEGAL BEFORE HEARD.” Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, November 19. At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday Thomas Francis Dunon was charged with playing a game of ohance at the Royal Show. When the ease was called Mr Sullivan, who appeared for the accused, asked for an adjournment until to-day. Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M.: All right, but only on the distinct understanding that the game is not played thiß afternoon. Mf Sullivan: But, your Worship, I can refer you to a case in Dunedin where the magistrate decided that the game is not illegal. The magistrate: Well, it is not gooing to be played here until the police are satisfied that it is legal. If it is gone on with to-day the police will bring a second prosecution. Mr Sultivan: I think it is highly regrettable that tbe game should be judged illegal before the case is heard.
