BRITISH CARS IN USE
IMPORTATIONS TO DOMINION WELLINGTON LARGEST PURCHASER. It' baa been possible to ascertain from the import statistics the number of English motor vehicles coming into the country, and their proportion to those of other countries, but until the motor register was compiled it was not possible to know the actual number in the Dominion (states the ‘‘Radiator.”) It was generally believed that although the proportion of English cars coming into New Zealand was small, their life was so much longer than the American. car that the proportion of cars in use would look more favourable from the English viewpoint. In this connection the following figures may prove interesting:— On September 30th, 1926, there were in New Zealand 95,511 motorcars, not including commercial mo tor vehicles or motor-cycles. Of these 8415 were English, or 9 per cent, of the total. It should be noted that we refer to English cars and not British cars, and cars imported from Canada are not included in these figures. Individual makes of English cars with over 300 on the register are: — Austin 1421 Morris 1370 Standard 624 Rover 611 Wolsley 502 Humber 420 Crossley 305 WHERE LOCATED Wellington district has the highest proportion of English cars with 11$ per cent. Palmerston North and Napier are second with 11 per cent. Wanganui is next with 10 per cent. Christchurch has 9$ per cent, and Auckland, the Dominion average of 9 per cent. All the other parts of the Dominion are below the average, the lowest percentages being Thames and Hamilton with 2$ per cent. each.
