CHILDREN'S LETTERS

Dear Clieeriel, On Sunday last we all went for a long walk. As we were going over a bridge wo saw a swarrn of rainbow trout making their way upstream. It was a lovely sight to see the red and many other coloured fish swimming here and there. My brother and 1 went down to the river bed, but when we reached the water’s edge they all swam away through the clear water. I wonder if there are any big fish in Sydney where Fairiel lives. 1 think there must be for the sea is close at hand. I suppose the fishermen get big fish in the ocean because it is so deep. When they catch a whale or any other fish it must be very exciting. 1 found Monty’s catch and I think Monty must have had some fun landing it 1

With love from— Charles Arawahata, age 12. Fukeora, Waipukurau. Dear Clieeriel, On Saturday our sewing teacher, Miss Clarke, took all her class for a picnic to Smith’s Bush. We did have such a jolly day, playing all sorts of games, and wc had races ns well. I won one and got a box of writing paper for a prize. I have had to ride to school behind my brother all this week, as my bike has been punctured, but mum mended it for me.

Your loving fairy— Martiiiborough. Molly Holland. Dear Chceriel, J have a little garden of my own, and my sweet peas will soon be out in flower. Keith was very pleased when he saw his name in the Fairy Ring page, and Joe (who is seven years old) wishes lie had joined too, hut he soon got tired of writing the letter. Your loving fairy— Gytha Higgie, Age 10 years. Wairere Falls, King Country.
