FIRST OF THE SEASON WELLINGTON PRICES OBTAINED Per Press Association. NAPIER, November 19. The first Napier wool sale of the 1926-27 season has passed off just as almost everyone expected. Ther©. Was a decline in values on those prevailing in March of this year to tho level of the prices prevailing in Wellington on Monday. Those closely connected with the trade are of opinion that the values ruling were from par to slightly better than those offering at the Wellington sale. Taken right through, they were better than most brokers expected, and there was a tone a-bout the market that gives a hopeful sign for the immediate future. Bradford, France, Germany-—in fact, most of the Continental countries—America and Dominion buyers operated. Competition was well distributed, and it increased as the sale progressed. The wool offered opened up tender, thin and short in staple, and more nasty than usual. Bradford lifted the bulk of tho catalogue. American buyers took very little, but there was keen competition among Continental buyers for pieces and bellies. The catalogue comprised 16,234 bales, and about 85 per cent, or more were sold under the hammer. Range of prices:— Southdown, super 16Jd to 18£d: average 14Jd to 16d; fine halfbred super up to 16d. Corriedale, 13§d to 15Id; coarse halfbred super, 14d to 15id; average 12§d to 13fd; inferior 104 d to 12d. Fine crossbred, super 13d to 14$d; average lid to 12d; inferior 9jd to 10£d; medium crossbred super I2d to 13Jd; average IOJd to Hid; inferior Bsd to lOd; coarse crossbred, super 12d to 13d; average XOd to Hid; low crossbred, average 9}d to 10id; inferior up to B£d. Hoggets, 48 to 50’s 14d to 15£d: 46 to 48’s 12d to 13}d ; 44 to 46’s, 13d to 131 d; 40 to 44’s, 91d to 12id; 36 to 40’s up to 10$d. Lambs, fine ll|d to 12id; medium lOd to lid; seedy and inferior up to 9}d. Pieces, necks ll|d to 14id; halfbred up to llld; crossbred, good to super 10id to 12d ; cTossbred, low to medium Sid to 9£d. Bellies, halfbred 81d to crossbred, good to super B*d to I0d'; crossbred, low to medium 6d to Bd. Crutchings, medium to good 81d tc lOd ; inferior and seedy 4d to 7d. Locks, crossbred 4Jd to 7Jd.
