SENIOR CADETS’ DANCE

BROOKLYN COMPANY. Brooklyn Company Senior Cadets held their first social and dance in the St. Matthew’s Hall, on Thursday evening’ last. The hall was tastefully decorated, and a large crowd danced with zest from 8 p.m. till midnight. A pleasing feature of the night was the attendance of a number of men-of-warsmen off H.M.S. Dunedin and H.M.S. Diomede. Mr Claude Sander’s orchestra rendered excellent musiq, and items were given by Mr Miller and Mr N. Sander, both being greatly appreciated. Captain Bruce, assistant area officer, was present, and spoke of the usefulness of these functions to the cadets, when the lads learnt of the other side to military training, and mixed together with true team spirit, and tied the bonds of comradeship true and strong. A balloon dance, Cinderella waltz, Monte Carlo, etc., were a few of the novelty dances during the evening, and all entered into them with much fun. . .. The conip any desire to heat'tuy thank Mesdames Miller. Wright, Thompson, O’Sullivan, Tunks, Cook, Hofferas, Mr Miller, and the number of young ladies who so kindly attended to supper arrangements; the able manner in which all was carried out reflected great credit on those concerned, not forgetting the Master of Ceremonies (Mr H. R. Wright), whose popular manner in announcing various turns was also appreciated. Major Miles, the 4th cadet battalion commander, was also present. Lieutenant C. Meachen, who has only taken over charge of Brooklyn a short while, feels confident that with the keenness already displayed by the cadets, other companies will find a worthy opponent in future competitions. The strength of the company at present is about 75.
