CRIME’S REWARD
' INDECENCY CASES OFFENDERS SENTENCED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, November 18. "William Watts, 75 years of age, on three charges of assault on boys, was sentenced to ten. years* imprisonment at the criminal sittings of the Supreme Court to-day. Ernest Le Compte pleaded guilty to committing an. indecent act, and was sentenced to three years' imprisonment. Roy Walter Watts, postal official, who stole a postal packet, containing i razor valued at 255, was admitted to probation tor two years. Frederick Richardson James, 39 years of age, pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted tape on a girl 13 years of age. He was sentenced to five years’ gaol. His Honour said the prisoner was lucky to escape a flogging. A youth of seventeen, who stole a postal packet containing goods valued at 30s. was admitted to two years’ probation, and his name suppressed. Edward Mahoney, found guilty of receiving goods knowing that they had been dishonestly obtained, was sentenced to eighteen months’ imprisonment. His Honour said that Mahoney was on probation for forgery and needed a sharper lesson. Harry Percy Rentoul Rambsottom Isherwood, found guilty of indecent assault, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. Cecil Jarden, 17 years of age, guilty of carnal knowledge of a girl 14 years of age, was admitted to probation for two years.
