SWIMMING
WELLINGTON CENTRE MEETING. A meeting of the Wellington centre took place on Tuesday evening at the Y.M.C.A. The programme was approved of for the Institute's carnival at the tepid baths, Tasman street, on the 20th {next Saturday). This programme includes some first-class events and a representative game of polo between Wei- ; iington and the navy. Wellington will ' have to field a strong team to win, as their opponents are real “hot stuff* and have cleaned up the best of polo teams in other centres. It will be a real good, interesting game, and combined with other events, the evening will be well worth while. This is the first carnival of the season, which will be opened with a few races at Te Aro Baths in the afternoon, the main carnival being, of course, in the ei cuing. It is also proposed to launch two large carnivals on December 41U and 18th, when the programmes suggested, if they come to pass, will be two of the finest ever staged at Te Ar<> Baths. Every effort is being made this season to bring the sport to tho top in Wellington. These carnivals will be followed bv others of the same nature. Tho Hurtt Clul/s application for affiliution to the centre was approved of and forwarded to the N.Z.A.S.A. The club’s colours are not yet decided. That able gentleman, Air P. Coira, was made sole polo selector, and it could not be in better hands. The committee io be Messrs Fordham, I. AlcHnrdy (convener), and J. Alexander. The proposed tour by tho Australian ladies was dealt with at some length, and left over till the next meeting pending further advice from Ihe N.Z.A.S.A. The Hutt Hath*; are to be opened officially on Friday, November 2Gth, at 2.45 p.m., according to advice received from the Hutt Club. The officers elected at the annual meeting were Dr. Herbert, president; vice-presidents. Hon. .1. G. Coat C"s P.C., Messrs J. 1\ Maxwell, I. Duncan. C. IF Norwood, and Hon. K. A. Air Fisher; auditor, Mr A. A, Somerville; handicapper, Afr .7. Calnan.
