The report of the general economic sulj-CQTpihittee. on oil pollution, adopted by we Imperial Conference, advocates that the governments of the Empire adopt the recommendations of the Washington Conference. “It seems necessary that some Dominions should exercise the option of extending the areas to 150 nautical miles from the coast, ” adds the sub-committee. It welcomes the prospect of the wider adoption, inter-Imperially and internationally, of the Brussels rules, covering * bills of lading, and commends the Brussels conventions, relating to the limitation of shipowners’ liability for maritime mortgages liens, to tho consideration of the governments throughout the sub-committee discussed the exclusion of drawbacks in the valuation of goods for Customs purposes, and it was generally agreed that several points might he considered regarding special or dumping duties It is understood that responsible authorities will examine the subject. . It was the general opinion that it is desirable to maintain the Imperial Shipping Committee on its present basis.
