FRENCH SHIP LOOTED
PIRATES NEAR HONGKONG MUCH BULLION TAKEN. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. PEKING, November 14. The arrival at Hongkong of the French steamer Hanoi revealed a case of daring piracy. When the Hanoi was 90 miles from Hongkong armed desperadoes overpowered the officers, killing one and wounding' two. Chinese guards took command and set a course for Bias Bay, where they abandoned the vessel. after removing 50,000 dollars in bullion, maritime Customs money, and 20,000 dollars from tho passengers. While the pirates were controlling the vessel a British destroyer was sighted, but the captain of the Hanoi was threatened with instant death if he signalled to the destroyer. The pirates came aboard disguised as passengers.
