MARRIAGE ANNULLED
BY DECISION OF THE VATICAN SIX YEARS AFTER LEGAL DIVORCE BOTH PARTIES RE-MARRIED Bv Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received November 15, 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, November 15. The newspapers give prominence to a decision of the Vatican, annulling the marriage of the Duke of Marlborough with Consuelo Vanderbilt, apparently at the request of Consuelo,
who applied to the Diocesan Court of Southwark. The matter was referred to the Sacred Roman Rota, which has now givqn the decision. The Duke, who recently was converted to Roman Catholicism, did not oppose the annulment, the basis of \vhich seems to be Consuelo’s claim that the marriage was arranged against her wishes. The parties were legally divorced in 1920, on a suit brought by. the Duchess. Both were married again in the following year, the Duke to Miss Deacon, of Boston, and the Duchess to Ideut-Colonel .Toques Balsan, a French aviation officer.
