MINISTERIAL The Minister for Lands (Hon. Mr McLeod) and the Minister for Agriculture (Hon. Mr Hawken) left Wellington yesterday for Auckland, where they will attend the Royal Agricultural Show. The Minister for Internal Affairs (Hon. Mr Bollard) leaves to-day on a sinijlar mission. Mr L. B. Beale (His Majesty’* Trade Commissioner) has left for Auckland to attend the Royal Agricultural Society’s show. Mr J. J. McMenamin, a member of the Union Parliament of South Africa, who is on a visit to New Zealand, i* at present staying with his mother at Lower Hutt. He will be in New .Zealand for some months. ~, , Mr'R. W. Witheford has been Appointed Deputy Superintendent of tha National Provident Fund and Registrar of Friendly Societies. Mr Witheford joined the Treasury branch of the Public Service in 1901, and did three years’ war service. Members of the Wellington ‘ Scots Social Club and many friends of the late Piper J. Simpson will regret to hear of his death on Saturday last. He was a well-known piper and singer, and was ever ready to assist any deserving cause. The funeral, to-mor-row afternoon, will be a Highland one. A.t tlie meeting of tlio council of the New Zealand Association of British Manufacturers and Agents held on the 15th instant the following new members were elected: —Messrs Henry Matier and Co., Ltd.. Belfast (represented by Messrs W. R. Kirker, Ltd.), Mr G. Stamp Taylor. Wellington; Mr Louis C. Fama, Wellington. A motion of condolence was passed witK the relatives of the late Mr James Doyle, at last night’s annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. The president of the association (Mr R. W. McYilly). stated that the deceased was one of the old stalwarts in athletics, and was instrumental. 30 years ago, in resuscitating amateurism in the Dominion. The occasion was taken at last night’s meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to present Mr R. Connop. the West Coast delegate, with a handsome clo&k and salad bowl, as a token of the .psteem in which he is held by the members of the council, and to mark the occasion of his recent marriage. The president (Mr R. W. MdVilly), in making the presentation, congratulated Mr Connop on the fact that he had joined the ranks of the benedicts, and wished he and his wife long life and happiness.
