The death roll is now 27/ ' The Murulla railway disaster was caused by the collision of runaway trucks running down a gradient on a single line with an upcoming mail train on the night of September 13th. Many people were killed outright and several victims died from their injuries in hospital. The disaster ranks ns the worst in the history of Australia, except the Sunshine ratastrophe on the Victorian railways about twenty years ago* v.
