Members of the garrison, who included John Knox, were carried off as galley slaves. The cannon ball may have been one used in this siege.. The building in which the ball was found is being converted into a bakery establishment. The walls are extraordinarily thick, measuring at parts almost 4ft, and many the stones bear signs of having originally belonged to St. Andrews Cathedral.
