MIDLAND V. UNIVERSITY

HOLLINGS 106, NOT OUT This game which "was played on No. 2 wicket, provided a much more interesting exhibition than the game on No. 1 wicket. Midland won the toes and elected to bat on a splendid wicket, but they did not rise to the occasion and a weak display of batting saw them disposed of for 123 runs. The destroying angel was Vietmeyer. a recently-promoted junior, who got the very creditable figures of 5 for 50. Midland made a fair start, but no one stayed long enough to get on top of the bowling. Baker 13, Dind 21. and J. Hutchings 19. all got far enough to make one wonder why they went out. Patrick indulged in some weird hitting in getting 25, while Clark 13 not out. and Judd 15, used the long handle for the last wicket. Apart from Vietmeyer the University howling was done bv Hollings, 2 for 29, and Tripe, 2 for 16. On ’Varsity going in to bat they set out in a hurry to overtake Midland's score; although McGavin left early for 7, Tripe 67 and Hollings 106 not out peppered the Midland bowline in great style, and put up a partnership of 152 in about one and a-balf hours. Only a couple of chances were given by the batsmen, and all the bowlers were treated alike. Hollings played a niasterlv innings in getting 106 not out in two hours. In successive innings be has made 79. 117 and 106 not out. Only one chance when nearly fifty, could be debited against him. At close of plav ’Varsitv bad 204 up for 4 wickets. Serres and bowling analysis follow : MIDLAND.
