WELLINGTON'S PLUCKY FIGHT, This senior Rugby game, played at Kel* burn Park on Saturday, resulted in a win. for Poneke by 34 points to Wellington’* 10. The weather condition* were ideal, there being practically no wind, but the ground was soft and slippery from the recent rain, and as the ball got wetter it got palpably heavier. Mr R. Eveusen was referee. Poneke, dressing first, took the ball down to Wellington twenty-five; but Wellington was relieved by a free-kick, Poneke pressed again shortly afterwards, and Slater got over, but Malin, taking the . kick, failed to increose the scorej Poneke 3, Wellington 0. Wellington then made an attack in force, taking the ball to Poneke’s twentyfive, and from a scrum and a bit of a muddle O’Sullivan scored a try, and also kicked the goal: Wellington 5, Poneke 3, Poneke attacked in turn, and a lot ol loose play followed in Wellington’* twenty-five, but a mack relieved the Yellows for a while. Yellows then took the ball down to the Red's twenty-five, and a tit of fast passing looked dangerous, but a froo-kick relieved Poneke for a time. Soon afterwards Sutherland got awaj with a good run, but was eventually brought to hook. The Yellows again pressed stronglv. and O'Sullivan got over dose by the goal, and neatly converted; Poneke 14, Wellington 10. The Reds then attacked, and good passing took the ball down the field, hut no score resulted. Fast play in Wellington territory followed for some time, and J. Tilyard then got over, and Malin converted with a good kick from a difficult angle: Poneke 19, Wellington 10. From a good possinv run McArthur got the ball and scored a trv for the Reds, and Malin again converted; Poneke 24; Wellington 10. O’Sullivan then, with *. good

dribbling rush, took the ball well into Poneke’s twenty-fire, but no score followed. Shortly afterwards, thanks to a freekick about midfield, the follows again took the ball well down, but failed to score.
