A GOOD GAME
'VARSITY DEFEATS BERHAMPORE. Last Saturday’s Rugby draw brought together the 'Varsity and Berhampore senior teams for the first occasion this season. Tho game resulted in a win for the College by twelve points to five. Play was not interesting to those on the side lino, and although the sco.ro indicates a fairly marked predominance, of the winning team, tho losers won as many laurels in general play as their opponents. With tho commencement, Varsity were playing from east to west, - but tho uteabhor were .sitdh that neither side was unduly favoured by wind; the ground was a little mucky after the recent rains, hut might have been worse. First blood was drawn by University; pressing from the kick-off, the students gradually gamed, ground, and securing in a handy position. Barwho was playing centre ..•three-quar-ter, was enabled to drop the ball nicely over tho line. Scott attempted to add the goal points, but failed.. University, 3; Berhampore, # ml. Almost immediately following this, Berhampore initiated a fast and brilliant passing rush, as a result of which Howard crossed the goal-line and opened the score for the southerners. . Morrison managed to kick nicely. Berhampore, 5; University, 3. Tho succeeding piny was - very even until shortly before the half-time signal, when a penally awarded to > arsity enabled Scott to alter the reading of the scores to: 'Varsity, 6• Berhampore, a. ’VARSITY’S GAME. Scoring in the second half of the match was all in favour of ’Varsity, who appeared to be somewhat singularly favoured by good fortune, while their opponents seemed to lack the sympathy of tho gods; tho collegians added a further six points—two goals—while tho opposing side failed to secure any. Scott successfully piloted the ball in tho two penalities to ’Varsity. 'Varsity, 12; Berhampore, 5. The closing stages were fast and in-
teresting, and saw a swift and vigorous retaliation from 'Foie. Several times ■ score was imminent, but the students' backs managed to get out the ball first and touch down.
