LONG-DISTANCE PASSENGERS. Tho CSty Council tramways committee recommended to last night’s meet-ing:—"That-the Greater Wellington Town-Planning Association be informed in reply to their request that preference should be given to long-dist-anoe passengers in connection with the revision of tram fares, that special consideration was given to this matter when tho new scale was adopted.” Oouncill Shorland moved that tho clause be referred back to the committee for further consideration; ho thought the time over which the workers’ concession tickets operated should be extended by half an hour. The council should also consider the raising of fares on Sundays, for it was put to extra expense in providing the service on that day. The Mayor remarked that; Councillor Shorland’s suggestions were premature. He asked for a period of grace for a month or two till it could be seen how the new system of charges worked.
