MAKARA COUNCIL
RESULT OF ELECTION POLL. A OLOSE~C ONTEST. The poll for the election of a councillor to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Councillor S. Bryant took place yesterday. The candidates were Frederick Henry Fut'ter and Thomas Shallcross Jackson, who are neighbours and residents of Ncwlands, near Johnsonville. Mr Jackson, who was the nomine© of the Ratepayers’ Association, was defeated, the voting' being aa follows: Fuller, F. H 53 Jackson. T. S 51 Majority for Flitter 2 Very little interest was taken lit the election, duo in some measure to the fact that tho ratepayers live in a scattered district, and in some instances have to go a considerable distance to the nearest polling booth. Approximately there are 500 ratepayers on tho roll of the riding.
