PRIZES PRESENTED. IMPORTANCE OF MILITARY TRAINING. - jOolonel _C., JT.. Cooper, C.8.E., lat» coast defence commander for the Canterbury military district, who is an enthusiast ip all matters military, and who takes a particular interest in senior cadet training, on Wednesday evening presented a number of prizes to members of the 42nd.,, (Kilbirnie) Company of senior cadets. In addressing the hoys the Colonel stressed the importance of military training and the necessity for their being prepared ito defend their homes, lie congratulated Captain R. H. Nimmo, officer in charge of the company, upon-fihe steadiness of the boys on parade, and made a donation towards the company funds to be need for whatever purpose was desired. ':
Tho Ladies’ Challenge Oup and accompanying medal was presented to Cadet A. N. Grimstone. the beat rifle shot in the company.- Marksmen’s badges were presented to Cadets T. G. Evans and Sergeant E. J. Nation; efficiency badges {for regularity of attendance at parades) to S.M-. P. D. Edwards, Corporal J. Hedley, Cadet G. Lanham, and Sergeant E. J. Nation ; good conduct badges to Sergeant INation, .Corporal Hedley, Corporal J. Lutterworth, Corporal S. L. P. Pateon. A. Harrison, and- K. Bead and Cadets O." C. Chapman,' T' G. Evans, -C-.-Lanham, and 11. O. Smith.
