NOTES AND COMMENTS

(By “Carbine. ”) Cyrisian looks particularly well just now and bis two recent public outings did him a lot of good. He is wori.h keeping in mind for events a little way ahead. The conductor of the brass band which played at a meeting not far from Wellington tipped a couple of good winners in his programme, and no doubt some of the many who must have noticed his selections in the -race card took the hint. “Bo Peep 1 ' and “The Digger*' we're the items referred to, and that afternoon Bo Peep and The Digger won. Bonnie Heather is a much improved gelding and the next time he is seen out the company will have to be good to beat him.

Little Rose Pink ran well in the early, stages of the Raukawa Cup and shaped as though her owner may get a few more good races out of her. Her principal trouble now eeems to be that she is not too kindly disposed toward the race track. >

The southerner. Bombproof, has been nominated at Napier Park and as there is talk of running him at Trentham he will probably do a round of North Island meetings if ho can be got up hero.

Two other South Islanders nominated at Napier Park are Palladio and Calma, both from P. T. Hogan’s stable. It is reported that .the Woffington owner, Mr H. W. Brown, has bought Counter Attack from Mr J- Grigg, Counter Attack is an English-bred horse by Jaeger—. Assertive. When he is put into work F. Christmas will have the training of him. Mr W. R. Kemball must now have about the biggest string of jumpers' in New Zealand. Beginning by acquiring Wishful and Gladful he subsequently made a number of purchases in Australia and ■ this week bought Eekanui and Mill o’ Gowrie. Both these ex-mem-bers of the Hannon team have shaped well over fences, and Mill o’ Gowrie is not yet up iu the weights. Jock’s victory on. the first day at Dunedin brought his winnings for the season to well over £ICOO. He has been a consistent porformer, winning six races and being placed on four other occasions. He is bv that good horse Glenculloch. one of Sir Geo. Clifford's breeding, from Follicle, and is owned by the Traill Bros., of Invercargill. Bengeroop, a winner on the opening day at tho Dunedin winter meeting, is by Calibre—Tinwaid Beauty, tho latter, a useful mare in, her time, the property of J. Grigg, of Ashburton. During the season he has enioyed little success, but has run into a place on.three occasions.

An aeroplane was, flying over Randwick 3’aoecourf.a reoanily while racing was in progress, and got down very low after the last race when passing over the Leger reserve and saddling paddock. On the occasion of* the recent Liverpool Grand National meeting the Air Ministry, having in mind the largo crowd there would .bo at Aintree, notified pilots that in order to avoid any interference" with tho racing, and any possible accidents to the public, thev should avoid flying either over or near the racecourse. Waimasu, who has been mentioned as an English Derby possibility, is by Stornoway from Waiontha, and is trained by- ST-<Wootton for Sir B. Hulton. At Kempton Park on April sth Wimasu won tho Easter Plate, a mile raco for throt-year-olds, and worth £631. Ho carried top weights, 9.2, and, finishing gamely, won by a neck from Kara Avis, 7.13. Special Commissioner, of the "London Sportsman,” took exception to Waimasu on tho score of his hocks, which are rather far away from him, with the bone below some-what light.
