MEETING OF TOWN BOARD. WATERWORKS AND RECREATION' GROUND LOANS. Tho monthly meeting of tho Johnsonvillo Town Board was hold on. Tuesday-. There were -present Commissioners 11.I 1 . .1. Moore (chairman). Bryant. Morpeth. Skinner, Morgan, Dunbar-Sloaue. and Hastings. A letter was received from the Wellington Coal Trace Committee informing tho board that 14 tons of coal had been sent to Johnsonvillo to be held in reserve by the local dealer for the purpose of supplying local householders incase of sickness. . Tho clerk reported that the final instalment of the water works loan, namely. jB3(H). had been received from the State Advances Office. He. was directed by the board to*make application to tho Advances to Settlers Department for a loan of .£IOOO for the purpose «I improving the Recreation Ground should tho vote of the ratepayers approve. Tho board thanked Commissioner Morgan, who, on behalf of the sports committee, offered to hand over .£350 collected during the Queen Carnival, such sum. to bo used on improvements to the Recreation Ground. ’ As an outcome of a letter received from the School Committee regarding the swimming bath', tho clerk was instructed to write to the Health Officer aud the Makara County Council, asking for particulars —firstly, in regard to suitability of the present site from a health point of view; and secondly in regard to securing title to tho land. The site for tho improved swimming baths to be supplied from overflow from the newly-erected dam <was foreshadowed. The question of purchase of ft stone quarry adjacent to Alain road was held over until next mooting. The engineer’s report on -water, lighting, and drainage, was considered by the board as very .satisfactory.
