A sub-commiftee of the London Chamber of Commerce reports that it is impossible to obtain a simplification of the hill of lading owing to tho .diversity of the conditions of different trades. The committee approves of an Australian and Now Zealand increase in ship-owners’ liability to LflOO per package,, and recommends tijat it be' adopted for all general cargo trades. Pilferage, has,, become ..intolerably acute. Underwriters now only, pay ,75 .per... cent, of. the claims on this account, even lor additional premiums. Pilferage is chiefly duo to lenient sentences," The sub-committee recommends imprisonment ‘without tho option of a tine.
