THE PRESBYTERY

A CALL FOR FUNDS. FOR FOREIGN MISSIONS. A meeting of tho Wellington Presbytery was held last night, tho Rev. W. Day (Moderator) presiding. It was reported by tho committee set up. to visit the Upper Hutt, that tho opinion of the meeting called to consider tho question was that the charge at the Upper Hutt should bo made a sanction .charge at tho expiration of Air' Climie’s tenure, next April. Tho Presbytery thanked and discharged' the committee. ■" It was resolved, subject to the approval of tho Church Extension Committee, to approve of raising Seatoun to the status of a sanction charge. With reference to foreign missions, tho Rev. A. Bruce Todd reported that he had received a letter from tip Foreign Missions Committee, stating that up to April 30th the account was over drawn by £6389, and that before the books closed on August 18th a further sura of £12,000 would be necessary to meet expenses and maintenance. If, ho added, tho much-needed reinforcements were to bo sent into tho mission field, that sum would require to bo considerably increased. A number of members of the Presbytery stated that the various congregations were doing all they could to raise additional funds. JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP? A remit from tho General Assembly —“That a junior membership of tho Church be established, consisting of baptised young people under 16 years of age, who may he admitted by the Kirk session on profession of their faith, such junior members to be admitted to the. Lord’s Table, but not to the other privileges of communicant members, and to be under the special care and direction of minister and session”—wrts discussed and disapproved by tho Presbytery. Tho point was stressed by several members that every minister already had the right to exorcise Ills own judgment in regard to tho question, * and they held very strongly that to approve of tho remit would mean the curtailment, instead of tho extension of tho privileges of the young people.
