THE MILK SUPPLY
SUPPLIES RUNNING SHORT. AN EXPLANATION. The position in regard to the establishment of a dairy factory at Koputoroa, and the City Milk Committee’s offer to take milk therefrom, is not unite as stated by speakers' at a recent meeting of farmers, and reported in yesterday’s “Times.” The facts as supplied are that in November last the Koputoroa farmers communicated with the City Milk Committee and asked if the latter would enter into an arrangement with them similar to the Otaki agreement. The Milk Committee in reply said that if the Koputoroa farmers were erecting a factory, Wellington would agree to take the whole of their winter milk, f urther correspondence has passed, and Air Ward recently visited the district, but negotiations have not gone beyond that stage. It is winter milk that the committee desires to secure. . In regard generally t.o the supply,of milk this winter, statements have been published regarding the quantity available. Mr Ward has directed attention to tho hi ct • reduction in the supply available, "in tho flush of the season the Te Hero factory was sending to Wellington between six and seven thousand gallons, and this has now dropped to 42ii ga lons. .Rahui, winch supplied 3500 gallons, is reduced to G 73 gallons. A dairy secretary in AVancanui whose factories m summer produce exceptionally large quantities of cheese, sent a telegram stating, “No milk supply available.
