MAORI LANDS
SHOULD THEY PAY RATES? The Hutt County Council at its monthly meeting yesterday endorsed the following resolution received from the Bay of Islands County Council* relating ‘to tho payment of rates on Maori lands. “That tho Prime Minister bo urged to bay© introduced at the coming session legislation either (a) giving local bodies full power to enforce tho payment of rates by Maoris; or (h) providing for payment of native rates by the General Government.’'
