MIRAMAR BOROUGH

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held last evening. There were present—Tho* Mayor (Mr S. M. Stone) and Councillors Eobertshaw, Gardiner, Hicks. Barnett, and Collie. Leave of absence was granted to Councillor McViear.

A deputation was received from the Volunteer Fir© Brigade with a request that the council should take stops to increase tho • membership of tho brigade. It . was decided to refer the matter to the brigade committee. Accounts amounting to £490 were passed for payment; The use of the Town Hall was granted to the ladys committee of the Volunteer Fire Brigade for the half-yearly social and presentation to be held on Juno 19th.

The estimates prepared bv the borough engineer in regard to the loan proposals were' approved, and it was decided to take immediate steps, to obtain tho consent of the ratepayers to have the loan raised. •
