PALMERSTON NORTH NOTES
Mr and Mrs J. Goring Johnston are leaving this -week on an extended trip to England, where some of their children are being educated. On Sunday Mr and Mrs Goring Johnston wore the recipients of farewell gifts and good wishes from the parishioners of St. Patrick’s Church, Dr _ McManus, on behalf of tho congregation, gave Mrs John ston an amythest and gold rosary beads, and Mr Johnston a silver cigarette case. Mrs M. H. Oram has gone to Napier for the marriage of her brother, Major W. Johnston. Misses Olive and Hazel Bett are leaving this week on a. trip to Sydney. They will be absent about six weeks. Mr and Mrs D. McCormack and Miss McCormack, of Picton. have been visiting Palmerston. Sirs Pierie bos been staying with her sister, Mrs Goring Johnston. Mrs A. A. Martin, who has been in Trentham, where her sister-in-law, Nurse Martin, has been so ill, has returned home. Miss Nellie Barber, who has been in the King Country with her brothers, is back in town. Wanganui golfers played an inter-club match on the local links, when the visitors were ffadly defeated, the games be. ing H -to 4. Mrs Boaworth has been staying with her parents, the Hon. T. Harris and Mm Harris, in Auckland, and Miss Boaworth has gone to Wellington to live. Mr John Bott, of Palmerston North, was married in Wellington on Tuesday to Miss Evelyn Archer, of that city. Miss Grainger, a visitor from Sydney, who has been staying with Mrs Pillans, is returning to Australia by this week’s boat. •
At St. Andrew’s Church yesterday afternoon Miss Mavis Eileen Pillana, voungest daughter of Mr and Mrs Hugh Pillans, of Palmerston North, was married to Mr William Hugh Shannon, of Te Horo, youngest son of Mrs Graham Shannon. The bridal gown was pale pink georgette with silver leaves, tho long court train of shirred georgette boing- finished with a true lover's .knot of silver ribbon. Her bridal veil, worn over tbo face, was caught with a chaplet of finy rotes, and she oagj-ied a bouquet, of white chrysanthemums. Tho .bridesmaid. Miss Elder, of Wellington, wore a frock of primrose georgette with
a largo tulle sash <jf forget-mc-not Une, and a black picture hat. Her bouquet tras. of bronze chrysanthemums. Little Dcieen Shannon, daughter of _Mr and Mrs Trovoi Shannon, was train-bearer, her dainty frock and bonnet being carried out in similar tones. Mr Stanley Speedy was best man. After the ceremony" the guests were entertained by Mr and "Mrs Pillans at their home in Ames bury street. Mr and Mrs Shannon left for the north by motor on their honeymoon. Among the guests were Dr and Mrs Martin, of Edinburgh, nho are tour, ins New Zealand, also Messrs Winkler and Stavert, also of that' Scotch city, who have come to New Zealand to take up land ■ ■
