WANGANUI NOTES
(By "Eileen.”) WANGANUI, June 7. Mrs Cruickshank, of Ashburton, is visiting friends in Wanganui. The Garrison ball, held on Thursday night, was a mest enjoyable one- Tho ucor was good, the decorations surpassed anything ever held in Wanganui, in fact, no oia and dingy Drill Hall was a bower of greenery t and bunting. Quite an (novation were the galleries erected at each <sfdo of the hall. Theas were for uon-dancers and chaperones, the underneath was nicely draped and as little alcoves- The music was supplied by the Returned Soldiers’ Orchestra, .dr Ralph O’Hara conducting. The supper room, like tho hall, was draped with bunting and relieved with greenery. Messrs Dustins, Ltd., put on a rifst-ciats supper. Among those present were Mr and Mrs W. A. Veitch, Mr and Mrs 1. B. Williams, Colonel and Mrs F. Turnbull,- Lieutenant Wales, Lioutemmt and Mrs Crampton,-Lieu tenant Wood, Colonel aid Mrs R. Hughes. Captain and Mrs Morgan, Mr and Mrs M. Fanil, Mrs J. Moore, Miss Cameron, Mr and Mrs J. M. dibson, Mrs lan Johnston, Miss Swan, Miss Gretehen Swan, Dr and Mrs MEarle, Mrs Selby Morton, Mr, P. Marshall, Mrs Izotl. Dr arid Mrs H. Christie, Miss O'Brie-i, Mrs Hazel and Miss Hazel, Miss' Brewer.
Ou Saturday evening tho Friendly Society members journeyed to the Old i’eople’s Home and entertained the old folks with music and song, and a tasty supper. Needless to say the concert was much enjoyed, so also was the supperBefore leaving cheers were given for the visitors.
Another enjoyable concert, took place at the hospital on Saturday evening. The members of Mr Moore’s Orchestra, assisted by Miss Ruby Cunan, entertained the patients to a couple of hours music and singing. The concert took place in cho Esson ward. Before leaving the party were thanked by the doctorThe Rev. Mr Cocker, of Wellington, xpent the week-end in Wanganui. Mrs Christie, of Dannorirke. i® at prevent. in town.
The Swankers’ Club gave a benefit concert on Thursday evening in the Opera House, the place being crowded. Tho concert was in aid of a local footballer and other families. On the Rco. on Thursday afternoon a benefit football match was played. The gate takings were very good, there being nearly 6000 people present. At tho Swankers” concert on Thursday evening, Hr G. Spriggius was made a life member of the Rugby Football Club. Mr G. Pownall (president) presented Mr Spriggins with a gold badge of momber,bip Hearty cheers were given, and Tor He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” sung. Mr Marris. af Tasmania, who has been relieving at tbo ■ local Bank of Australasia, hue been transferred to Waverley. He left on Friday. Mr Morris is very musical and has a nice voice, so ho will be quite an aquisition to Waverley.
