BOWLING

WELLINGTON CENTRE. In its annual report, the executive of the Wellington Bowling Centre states that the number of -affiliated clubs iemains the same as last year, 18, with a total membership of, at the beginning of the year, 1210. This shows a c > eureu '’? of 22, but undoubtedly the number of affiliated members has increased considerably since the season of the different dubs opened. .... The executive at the last tournament instructed umpires to examine all bowls to see they they had tho approved test stamp on them before being used to play therein. Notwithstanding the full notice given by the centre, many players had to be hold up. Th© executive wishes it to be impressed on all club members that they must take timely steps to get their bowls tested and properly stamped if they wish to take part In centre-con-trolled competitions. It is hoped that Mr Murray, the official tester, will in. future be located on the Wellington Club’s green, ns being the most central, and he will he asked to arrange to test there regularly during tho months of October and November. It must be appreciated that testing can bo carried out only under suitable weather and green conditions, and. hence players must be prepared to avail themselves of the first opportunity offering to have their bowls tested. The next Dominion Association tournament will bo held in' Wellington, presumably in the early part of January. The executive therefore hopes that all clubs will make the utmost effort to have their greens in ns satisfactory a condition as is possible. It ds anticipated that the entries received will establish a ncw>i-ecord for the Dominion, ami aa the success of a tournament, depends in the main on the good playing of the greens used, the executive trusts that the usual complaints of players concerning the playing of greens will be much fewer than is customary.
