AT A LAND BALLOT
BELATED RESERVATION CHALLENGED.
PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION. TIMARU, Juno 2. An incident in connection with tho land ballot yesterday’ for the Lambrook settlement has .caused much dissatisfaction. For lot 2, 383 acres, there wore n good many applicants, including several from Christchurch, and silrprise was caused by an announcement when the lot was called for ballot that it was reserved for a son of tbo vendor—a returned soldier, dor—a roturticd soldier.
A protest was made at once, and at a, meeting after tbo ballot, that the reservation was not made till tho last moment'and men had been put lo tho expense of - applying for it. Doubt was expressed whether such a. reservation, even, with due n.otioc, was either legal or fair.
