POLICE COURT CASES
YESTERDAY'S SITTINGS CRIMINAL AND CIVIL PROSECUTIONS. Seven first offender inebriates, brought up at the. S.M. Court yesterday, before- Mr E. Page, S.M., were dealt with in the usual manner. Herbert Arthur Denyer pleaded guilty to being found drunk in Boulcott street on Monday and to committing a breach of his prohibition order. Inspector Emerson stated that the accused was wanted in Auckland as he had failed to pay a. .fine of £5 for a breach of his prohibition order in Auckland. Denyer was convicted and discharged on the present charges; and Mr Page suggested that he should rotiirn to Auckland and ask for time to pay the fine. Thomas Lowry, charged with being drunk in Tory street on Monday, using obscene language, and breaking his prohibition order, pleaded guilty. On the charge, of using obscene language, he was fined £5, in default seven days' imprisonment; on tho charge of drunkenness he was committed to Rotrv-oa for a further period of twelve months.
Madeline Maude Pane, charged with the theft of :i bottle of whisky, valued at 12s 6d, and one cut-glass decanter, valued at £3, the nroperty of Leslie Guy Fulton, pleaded guilty. She was convicted and ordered to como up for sentence if called upon within twelve months. The condition of her beintr allowed at liberty was that she should stay at the Salvation Army Home for o. neriod of twehe months, and not interfere with her children, except with the consent of her relatives. UNDEFENDED CIVIL CASES.
Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M.. heard tho j civil cases and gave, judgment for the plaintiff in tho following undefended cases:— jv Reginald Collins/Xtd., v. Father R. P. Finn, £ls 4s, costs £1 10s 6d; Rowe and Sons v. Bradly and Son, £9 7s 7d, costs, £1 Ss 6d; Kirkcaldie and Stains, Ltd., v. G. W. Evans, £24 12s 9d, costs, £2 14s 6d; Jackson and Co. v. L. Garnett, £l9 Is Id, costs, £1 10s'6d: Lazarus Wolfe Balkind v. AV. L. Chalkers, £7, costs, £1 5s fid ; W. Booth and Co., Ltd., v. G. S. Hodginson, £5 4s. costs, £1 3s Gd; A. and T. Burt. Ltd., v. Catherine Marv Tutschka, 8s 6d, costs, ss; B. Smith v. W. Walton, £l4 15s 7d, costs, £1 15s Cd. James S. Middletcm was ordered to pav A. G. Meatvard the sum of £8 10s lOd by instalments of 10s . per month. . TENEMENT CASE'S. C. W. Brown was ordered to give up possession of a tenement to Cai'oliino McMaetcrs by June 16th. and also to pay £2O 12s 6d rent and costs amounting to £1 10s. Hannah Davis must, give up possession of a dwelling to Isabella Leadinghani by July 2nd, and pay 13s costs. WRONGFUL DISMISSAL. Thomas Charles Lloyd Cox claimed £24 damages from the A.B.C. Motors (N.Z.) Ltd., for alleged wrongful dis- • missal. Plaintiff maintained that the company should have given hiim either a month's wages or a month's notice of dismissal, but the company paid him only £B, one week's wages. Evidence was heard, and tho magistrate gave judament for the plaintiff for £B, and £1 18s costs. CITY BY-LAW CASES.
A number of by-law cases were heard by Mr E. Page. S.M. *_ Mr J. O'Shea (city solicitor) appeared on behalf of the Wellington City Corporation. » Karris Tbrpcy was fined £2 and costs for erecting au obstruction, a stall for the sale of flags, ut tho. corner of Ghuzneei aud Cuba streets, during the I'rinco of Wales's visit. X'or having a horse vehicle insufficiently lighted Ernest Hunter was fined £1 and costs. Insufficient lighting of his motorcycle cost Ered Louis Latta 10s and costs.
±<or passing a stationary tranicar at tho corner of Manners street, Claudo I'. Allen, motor-car driver, was lined £1 and costs. Caleb Bird was mulcted in a fine of £5 aud 10s costs for driving afc an excossivo speed over the intersection of Manners street and Cuba street on tho night of ApriL 39th, aud 10s and 7a costs for failing to have a rear light showing on his registration number. Evidence was given that the defendant was driving well over 30 miles an hour. • Edwin Edgecombe was fined 10s and 7s costs for driving an insufficiently lighted motor-car in Willis street. Alat'thcw Livingstone, for faling to Btop his motor-car when signalled to do so -.bv a constable on point duty, was fined' £3 and 19s costs. A fine of £l, with 7e costs, vu inflicted on James Proctor for leaving his cap unattended in AViUis street. For passing a stationary tramcar on his motor-cyole, Arthur Koot6 was fined £1 and costs. WANDERING STOCK.
