DEFENCE SCHEME
OPINION OP RETURNED SOLDIERS.
At the annual conference of the N.Z.R.S.A. yesterday a remit was moved as follows:—"That this association considers that an efficient defence scheme is essential to New Zealand a? a country in itself and as part of the Empire." In moving tihe remit Mr J. D. Harper (Wellington) said ho did not think tho war was done with. The League of Nations had not achieved all that was expected of it, and in the, interests of the future of this country we must, be prepared and ready to* defend it: It was, at the same time, tho duty of tho country to onsider an efficient reconstruction scheme whicn should bo possible with the experience gained. There was a, league in the countrv now which had been tormoci for tho purpose of urging effective! future defence. He did not know whether tho association wae prepared to offer its assistance to the Doiorac© League, tho construction of which had been widely published. . The remit was adopted unanimously.
